GUIDE-LINES BEFORE THE WORK
The materials (enamel, hardener and catalyst) will be enough for one bathtub (ca. 4,5 m2), for smaller fittings according to the area.
Make sure, that temperature in the bathroom is not less than +22 C during the work and drying. Painting has to be finished quite fast, because the hardening process begins 40 minutes after mixing the components. The painting should be ready by then. Fixings can be seen as stripes or roughness.
PREPARATIONS
Keep the paint at least in +22 C, during 24 hours before the work. Regardless of the carefully process of manufacturing, there can be some dust particles in the brush and roller. It's preferable to wash them with soap and water, or use a vacuumcleaner. Let dry thoroughly before use.
Make sure that the bathroom is as dustless as possible, to avoid dust on surface. Take out all carpets, towels etc. and wear cloths which does'nt shed fluff.
Cleaning of the bathtub thoroughly is conclusively important for later resistance of the coating.
Silicon seamings must be taped carefully or rather be removed all. Be very careful when removing silicon, if there are any particles left on surface, it might cause rejection. This appears as small holes or areas, where the enamel is drawing back from in final stage of coating.
CLEANING OF THE BATHTUB
If you did remove the silicon seamings, start rubbing the edges with small strip of rough sandpaper and wash simultaneously with plenty of water.
Tap few liters of water to the bathtub, so the bottom will be covered. Add calcium remover (citric acid), stir a bit, so it will dissolve faster.
Cut those rough sandpapers in two pieces and rub the surface hard, first the edges and sides (use rubber gloves!). Rub until the surface is matt and dark and yellow parts are gone.
Tap the water out and rub the bottom also. Wash with plenty of water and rub simultaneously the tub one more time with smoother sandpaper. After that wash the tub with ex. Maalarin Pesu, the main thing is that there isn't any agents left after washing. Rinse therefore carefully with warm water. Remove the drain cover if possible, otherwise tape it carefully or rather rub and paint it too. This makes the gap between drain cover and tub tight again. (The old gasket is often so dry, that it leaks).
REPAIRING SCRATCHES
Fill chips and deeper scratches with ex. Pastic Padding. Use preferably the white Plastic Padding Gel Coat, then the mend is not shining through. On the bottom and horizontal surfaces you may use some other fillings as well, because there is possible to put thicker layer of enamel. Gently sloped corrosions ex. on the bottom is possible to fill with the enamel without mending at all. When the filler is dry, rub it first with rough and then with smoother sandpaper. Wash well and let dry out.
VERY IMPORTANT!
Do not touch the bathtub any more with your hands or fingers after these preliminary works (grease spot affect fastening of the enamel). Cover edges and chromium-plated parts with tape carefully. Remove the shower hose and cover water taps with plastic bag, to avoid any water dropping to the bathtub during work or drying.
MEND THE BATHTUB
If needed, wipe the dust off with a tack cloth or some other clean cloth. Pour the hardener and the catalyst in the enamel can and stir with stick at least 2 min. Pour the mass in roller box.
Apply the mass rapidly with paint brush on the bathtub. Working time 10-15 minutes.
Make the mass even with roller back and forth, first vertical movements and then horizontal, make the edges last. Move the roller on upright surface with it's sharp edge forward to avoid leaving tracks. Working time 5-10 minutes.
The coating will be very shiny, when you finish it with paint brush. Do slight, but exact strokes upright from the edge down towards the midline of bottom. Smooth then out the ridge of paint in the center of bottom with horizontal strokes towards the outlet. Finish also th e edges with smooth strokes. Working time 10-15 minutes.
Check yet, if there is some hair or other chaff on the surface, remove them gently with the edge of paint brush and smooth lightly. If you see some small holes (because of silicon), you may try to fix those, put a drop of paint on the hole and smooth lightly. Don't however keep fixing too long, because there can be some stripes or roughness.
ADVISE AFTER THE WORK
Hardening process starts 40 minutes after mixing the components. Painting is dust dry 5 hours after finishing the work. Until that keep the bathroom door closed, to avoid dust on the surface.
Masking tapes can be removed earliest the next day. Don't open windows during first 24 hours. Cold and humid air can affect the finish.
The hole drying time is 5 days. Don't use the bathtub during this time and make sure no water is dropping on the tub. Keep the bathroom temperature constant and at least +22 C.
INSTRUCTIONS TO USE AND CLEAN THE "NEW" BATHTUB
Clean the bathtub with liquid household cleaner (ex. Fairy) and soft sponge. Do not use scouring powder in order to avoid scratching the surface.
If you use bubble bath or bath salts, run first water into the bathtub and then add the foam or salts. These chemicals may tarnish the enamel finish.
Medicated baths may contain colouring agents which may dye the bathtub. (The risk is the same with all the bathtubs, even those with original enamel finish.)
Avoid using hard objects in the bathtub, ex. washing dogs or taping the waste water from washing maskin is not recommended.
